About the Scholarship
The Mary Elizabeth Courier Research Scholarship was established in 2008 by the generous bequest of her late husband, Australian artist, Auguste John "Jack" Courier.
Conditions of Award
The purpose of the Scholarship is for research into cancer among women; specifically, cancer of the cervix and/or uterus. The research is to be undertaken at an institution located in Australia or New Zealand.
Eligibility
The Scholarship is open to medical graduates who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand.
Tenure
The Scholarship is for a period of three years.
Application
Applications are to be submitted using the RANZCOG Research Foundation Application Form, together with other information as specified on that form. Applicants and their Supervisor must provide written assurance that resources will be available to ensure completion of the research.
In years where the Scholarship is advertised, the deadline for receipt of applications is 30 June. Applications are assessed by the Grants & Scholarships Committee of the RANZCOG Research Foundation.
Administration of the Scholarship
The Scholarship is to be undertaken in a hospital, university department or research institute in Australia or New Zealand. Time spent undertaking the scholarship may be recognised for part of the pre-Fellowship training for the FRANZCOG, RANZCOG subspecialist training or towards the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program requirements of the College for Fellows.
Stipend and Allowances
The annual stipend is $30,000. The total value over three years is $90,000.
Report on the Scholarship
Progress reports are to be prepared six and eighteen months into the project, including the research supervisor's assessment of the scholarship holder's work. This progress reports will be assessed by the Grants & Scholarships Committee prior to confirmation of the second and third years of the Scholarship.
Following completion of the project, a full report is to be submitted to the Research Foundation by 31 January in the year following completion of the research. This report will be reviewed by the Board of Directors.
The RANZCOG Research Foundation is to be acknowledged in any publication or thesis resulting from work undertaken during the tenure of the Scholarship by stating that the author was the recipient of the Mary Elizabeth Courier Research Scholarship for a particular period. A copy of any published article arising from research carried out under the scholarship is to be submitted to the RANZCOG Research Foundation when available.
Article for O&G Magazine
This should be a lay overview of the project (200 words) stating why the project is an important area for study, what the project set out to achieve etc. It will be due 31 January in the year following completion of the project. The article will be published in the RANZCOG O&G Magazine and may be used for other promotional uses by the Foundation.
