About the Fellowships
The ASGO Travelling Fellowships were established in 2011 to facilitate links and the sharing of knowledge within the gynaecological oncology community. The Fellowship funds are provided by the Australian Society of Gynaecologic Oncologists (ASGO) and administered through the RANZCOG Research Foundation.
Conditions of Award
The ASGO International Travelling Fellowship shall be in the form of a grant to assist the successful applicant to visit a recognised Gynaecological Oncology centre in Australia or New Zealand.
The ASGO National Travelling Fellowship shall be in the form of a grant to assist the successful applicant to visit any country outside Australia or New Zealand for the purpose of attending an overseas centre, training facility, meeting or workshop related to the subspecialty of gynaecological oncology.
Eligibility
The ASGO International Travelling Fellowship is open to Gynaecological Oncology trainees or Gynaecological Oncology Subspecialists of less than five years and who are normally resident in a developing country*.
The ASGO National Travelling Fellowship is open to RANZCOG Gynaecological Oncology Subspecialty trainees, RANZCOG Gynaecological Oncology Subspecialists of less than five years standing or Members of ASGO and who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand.
(*For the purposes of these Fellowships, a ‘developing country’ is one recognised and defined by the Asia & Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a Developing Member Country.)
Tenure
The Fellowships are for a period of travel and study of not less than two weeks and not more than two months.
Application
Applications are to be submitted using the RANZCOG Research Foundation Application Form, together with other information as specified on that form. Applicants and their Supervisor must provide written assurance that resources will be available to ensure completion of the research.
In years where the Scholarship is advertised, the deadline for receipt of applications is 30 June. Applications are assessed by the Grants & Scholarships Committee of the RANZCOG Research Foundation.
Stipend and Allowances
The ASGO International Travelling Fellowship grant shall cover the cost of a return economy airfare and a contribution towards accommodation and other associated costs to a maximum of $AU10,000.
The ASGO National Travelling Fellowship grant shall cover the cost of a return economy airfare to the meeting or institution and a contribution towards the cost of accommodation and/or registration fees to a maximum of $AU5,000.
Report on the Fellowship
The successful applicant shall agree to submit a report to the Research Foundation and the Australian Society of Gynaecologic Oncologists within three months of their return. This report will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and the ASGO Executive.
The ASGO Travelling Fellowships are to be acknowledged in any publication or thesis resulting from work undertaken during the tenure of the Fellowship by stating that the author was the recipient of an ASGO Travelling Fellowship for a particular period. A copy of any published article arising from research carried out under the ASGO Travelling Fellowship is to be submitted to the RANZCOG Research Foundation when available.
Article for O&G Magazine
This should be a lay overview of the project (200 words) stating why the project is an important area for study, what the project set out to achieve etc. It will be due within three months of the date of return. The article will be published in the RANZCOG O&G Magazine and may be used for other promotional uses by the Foundation and ASGO.
